How to Install New Engine Mounts. |
Car: 1991 VW Golf Mk2 1.8 Driver
Colour: Black
VW Golf Mk2's have a tendency to chomp through engine mounts! Having replaced the engine mounts on several Golfs, we decided to replace them on this car sooner rather than later, as worn engine mounts do seem to have a big effect on how a Golf pulls away and drives.
Having replaced the front engine mounts on other Golfs, we would usually find that we had to replace the rear engine mount soon afterwards. So on this occasion we purchased both the front and rear mounts as well as the 3rd mount located on the gearbox side.
When it came to fitting though we found the gearbox mount was not quite as simple as we thought that it would be, so on this occasion we didn't change that one.

Shown above is the front engine mount, this is usually the first to display a large amount of free play.
Shown here is the rear engine mount, not that you can see it too well - hidden down behind the back of the engine!

The 3rd Engine / Gear Box Mount! Err, ...we left that one in place in the end!
Here you can see the nice new front engine mount in place.
